Helpful Tips Before You Start

Before you dive into the pattern, here are a few tips to help your Starry Ridge Cowl come out smooth, even, and beautifully textured. The star stitch and 3rd-loop techniques look intricate, but they’re much easier once you see them in action. Below, you’ll find step-by-step photo instructions to guide you through both stitches, along with a few helpful notes to make your crocheting experience even simpler.

sc 3rd Loop

To work the SC 3rd Loop, work in the loop that is behind the top V of the ST indicated.

Star Stitch Instructions

Beginning Star Stitch: Ch 3, insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, yo and pull up a loop; insert hook into 3rd ch from hook, yo and pull up a loop; insert hook into first stitch, yo and pull up a loop; insert hook into next stitch, yo and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook); yo and pull through all 5 loops, ch 1 to close star.

Tip

When finishing the Star ST rounds. Finish the last Star ST by drawing up the last loop of the ST in the first ST of the round. By working the last stitch this way you will avoid having holes in your cowl.
